When the temperature drops, we all crave something warm and cozy to tackle the chilly wind. Often a cup of hot tea comes to our rescue in such scenarios. The aroma of fresh tea leaves combined with cardamom and ginger instantly makes us want to sip a hot beverage. While the usual home-cooked milk tea remains an all-time favorite, there’s no harm in exploring some other teas. Herbal tea has been described as a healthy version of tea that has a number of benefits.

Herbal teas come in different varieties, each with a distinct flavour. The medicinal properties in these types of tea can help you fight many common health issues and improve your overall health. But if you’re confused about which herbal tea to choose, nutritionist Lovneet Batra, in an Instagram post, recommends five herbal teas to try depending on the health issue you have.
5 herbal teas for general health:
1. Chamomile tea for better sleep
Enriched with fragrant chamomile flowers, this herbal tea can help you fall asleep faster and get a healthy sleep. According to a nutritionist, chamomile contains an antioxidant called apigenin that binds to certain receptors in your brain and makes you feel relaxed and calm. This, in turn, helps in getting a good night’s sleep and fighting insomnia. The nutritionist suggests sipping the tea while you sleep. Chamomile tea can be prepared by adding some chamomile flowers to hot water. Leave it for 2-3 minutes and then strain.
2. Ginger tea for nausea
If you feel nauseous, drink some ginger tea and let it do its thing. Ginger tea contains a specific compound called 6-gingerol, which helps eliminate the uncomfortable feeling of nausea. The compound is also effective in relaxing the muscles of the digestive tract and relieving motion sickness during pregnancy. According to a nutritionist, one should have ginger tea in the morning. To make a cup of ginger tea, boil 1/2 inch of ginger root and water together for a few minutes and then drink it after filtering.
3. Lemongrass and ginger tea to control blood glucose
Lemongrass has been found to be effective in treating high blood sugar. It inhibits alpha-glucosidase and alpha-amylase, which helps manage blood sugar levels. Meanwhile, ginger exhibits antidiabetic activity by inhibiting the enzyme alpha-glucosidase. The beta-sesquilandrin present in it helps to increase insulin sensitivity. One should sip lemongrass and ginger tea early in the morning. Take some lemon stalks and a medium sized piece of ginger. Boil them in water for 10 minutes. Then pour the tea into a cup and drink it.
4. Hibiscus tea for menstrual pain
Hibiscus tea has analgesic properties that help relax the muscles around the uterus. This provides relief from painful period cramps. Drinking tea may also regulate aldosterone, a hormone produced in the adrenal gland. The hormone is responsible for regulating salt and water levels in the body. Hibiscus tea also acts as a diuretic and reduces bloating. You can have a cup of hibiscus tea seven days before your period starts. Make this herbal tea by adding some hibiscus flowers to a teapot and pouring boiling hot water over them. Let the tea sit for about 5 minutes, which will sweeten and enjoy.
5. Tulsi tea to improve the immune system
Tulsi tea contains medicinal properties that can help control asthma and bronchitis. It performs anti-allergic functions in the body and can boost immunity. Tulsi tea contributes to the protection of the bone marrow, which produces oxygen-carrying red blood cells and white blood cells responsible for immunity. You can enjoy a cup of Tulsi tea at any time of the day. To prepare it, just add 5-10 tulsi leaves to a cup of water and let it boil for some time. Allow the flavor to infuse into the tea and then enjoy it after filtering.
